Objectives
A. Serve the Navy’s needs for support of the commissioning of USS Freedom.
B. Provide an attractive opportunity for Americans in the heartland to learn what their Navy is doing.
C. Increase awareness of the Navy League of the United States and its mission.
D. Create an event commensurate with the importance of a ship commissioning.
E. Recognize the sacrifices made by area military men and women in the name of freedom.
Goals
- Plan/arrange the mandatory receptions and activities in a manner befitting a first-in-class ship.
- Provide a memorable experience for the crews and their families by facilitating participation in community activities, experiencing social, cultural, and recreational offerings in Milwaukee.
- Facilitate attendance and participation of organized groups:
a. Youth groups (Sea Cadets, NROTC Cadets, NJROTC Cadets)
b. Veterans and military affiliated groups.
c. Patriotic organizations.
d. Civic organizations. - Reach out to individuals and groups that traditionally do not participate in military events.
- Provide special opportunities for non-traditional groups and individuals to learn about the Navy’s role in national defense and the GWOT.
- Create high visibility for the Navy League brand in distributed materials and at commissioning events.
- Enroll 500 new Navy League members in the Great Lakes Region of which, 250 will be in the Northwest Area.
- Stage receptions and activities at top-notch venues that showcase Midwest values and class.
- Raise a minimum of $350,000 to cover the costs of receptions, events, gifts, premiums and administrative expenses.
- Purchase gifts for the ship, ship’s crews, and ship’s sponsor as appropriate.
- Make special arrangements to have Gold Star families, wounded heroes, and Congressional Medal of Honor awardees participate and be recognized.
- Establish a permanent commemoration of the commissioning, dedicated to those who preserve freedom.
- Prepare professional website, presentations, brochures, and other materials that demonstrate a commitment to a first-class operation.
- Make all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of the crews and their families during their stay in Milwaukee.
